Bend and back pain

If you’re looking for Utah back pain relief, you aren’t alone—and Alex J. Nelson, MD and his team of expert providers are here to help.

There are many causes for back pain, and at Peak Health and Wellness there are also many treatment options. However, the right treatment starts with the right diagnosis. Lower back pain is experienced by most adults at some point in their lives, but for some people, this pain only happens when they bend over. Why is that?

Bending naturally increases strain on the lower back, and this motion can also exacerbate injuries or other medical issues. A strained back muscle can lead to inflammation, which can, in turn, cause muscle spasms.

Given today’s often sedentary lifestyle, it’s common for North Ogden back pain to be caused by lack of movement and mobility, tight muscles, and poor posture. In some cases, simply resting for a few days can minimize muscle pain, or an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drug may help. Ice or heat and massage are also easy ways to increase comfort. However, a lot of the time back pain treatment is going to require medical intervention.

COMMON CAUSES OF BACK PAIN

One of the most common causes of back pain is a herniated disc, which occurs when a disc between the vertebrae moves out of place. This often happens with age, as the discs degenerate over time.

Sciatica is another common cause of back pain in North Ogden, and while it can result from a herniated disc, it’s a condition in its own right. If the disc puts pressure on the sciatic nerve, sensations of pressure, pain, or burning can travel down the back and legs. Spondylolysis, or a stress fracture, is common in athletes and can also happen from blunt force trauma.

These are just a few of the root causes of back pain in North Ogden, and all can be exacerbated by bending over. Of course, bending is a natural movement and one the human body was designed to perform. However, injuries and lack of regular movement can make bending over painful.
