Cervical facet joint arthritis or arthropathy is a common cause of neck pain and discomfort due to degeneration and arthritis of this part of the vertebrae. This condition causes pain in the neck that does not radiate into the arms. Spondylosis, which is an umbrella term, describes symptoms related to degenerative changes in the spine and is not considered a medical diagnosis. The term Spondylosis is often used in place of facet joint arthritis, or facet arthropathy.

Bulging discs, which typically surface in the lower back, occur when a weakened or deteriorated disc swells through a crevice in the spine, extending outside of its normal area. This condition happens when a disc shifts out of its normal position, usually slowly and over an extended period. As the disc moves, its inner, liquid-like nucleus begins to balloon toward the weakest point in its hard outer casing, causing pain and general discomfort.

This pain condition results when a nerve in the neck where it leaves the spinal canal is irritated. This condition usually occurs when a nerve root is being pinched by a herniated disc or a bone spur and causes pain to shoot or radiate into the shoulder or hand.
